Beeing the CEO of an email company I could not agree more with you.
I belive one important distinction should be emphasized between storing email on your own harddrive and storing it online.
My company runbox (www.runbox.com) is betting the farm on the future of email beeing online storage. Personaly I have all email received and sent since the summer of 2000 online in my runbox account.
All email headers being stored in the database I find myself having stopped to put email in folders and rather just searching for senders or topics instead.
I belive storing email online will be the most convenient way for email companies like mine to deliver inovative search methods to customers.
